Milk bread

Milk bread is a wonderfully soft and fluffy bread that’s perfect for sandwiches, toast, or simply enjoying on its own. It’s known for its tender crumb and slightly sweet, milky flavor. Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup warm milk for brushing (optional)
Instructions:
1. Activate the Yeast:
a. In a small bowl, combine the warm water and warm milk. It should be comfortably warm to the touch but not hot. Sprinkle the yeast over the liquid and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
a. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
3. Make the Dough:
a. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture along with the melted unsalted butter.
b. Stir everything together until a dough forms.
4. Knead the Dough:
a. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.
5. First Rise:
a. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it has doubled in size.
6. Shape and Second Rise:
a. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove excess air.
b. Divide the dough into portions, depending on how many loaves or rolls you want to make.
c. Shape the portions into your desired loaf or roll shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
d. Cover them with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
7. Preheat and Bake:
a. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
b. Optionally, brush the tops of the loaves or rolls with warm milk to give them a shiny finish.
